Good day to all blues lovers everywhere. We've had two shows since our last newsletter with JW Jones and Crystal Shawanda performing this spring. Both artists brought their unique brand of blues as we continue to showcase Canadian talent throughout our 2023 calendar. October brings Montreal's Angel Forrest and November features Toronto band Bywater Call.
Summertime brings us the great outdoor festivals happening throughout southern Ontario. Last week the Lighthouse Blues Festival set the standard for the region with 3 days of great blues. This Saturday, July 22nd, visit Chatham Ontario for the Backyard Bluesfest, All details can be found at sonsofkent.com. Bands include our own 2022 Road to Memphis champs, the Heartless Saints.
The Canada South Blues Society invites all aspiring blues artists to compete in our 2023 Road to Memphis Blues Challenge. The showdown starts Wednesday, September 20th at the Lion's Head Tavern, 7880 Wyandotte Street East. A 6 pm start is scheduled with participants having a pick of three categories: single, dual, or band format. Entries must be received by September 1st. Contact Mike McCann for registration and contest rules at micheal@windsorblues.ca.
Semi finals and finals will be held Saturday and Sunday to cap off Memphis Challenge week. We hope you will join us in encouraging local artists to reach for the stars. There's no place like Memphis for the blues and we can't wait to help the winner of our challenge compete in the 2024 Blues Foundation Challenge.
Supporting local artists, supporting the blues, and seeing everybody gather to enjoy great music is what keeps us motivated. A special thank you goes out to CSBS member Doug Girard for volunteering his time, effort, and camera to help us catalogue our museum artifacts. Many of the images you see on our Facebook page or this website were taken by Doug. And of course, thanks to all of you for supporting our society and the blues.
